Good luck, Earth! How Chappell Roan is Fighting Climate Change

You might know her as the iconic singer-songwriter whose voice is an ode to queer joy and the woman-loving-woman experience. At the Environmental Media Association, her lyrics aren’t the only thing that resonates; we take Chappell Roan’s eco-forward actions “Hot-to-go.” From carrying a reusable water bottle at the VMAs to wearing sustainably sourced clothes and nature-inspired outfits, Chappell Roan is more than just a femininomenon; she’s a climate superstar.

Reusable Water Bottle at the VMAs
At the VMA Awards on September 11, where she won Best New Artist, Roan put a medieval twist on her usual drag aesthetic and sipped from a reusable bottle during press interviews. While using a reusable bottle may seem trite or insignificant, it can save at least 156 plastic bottles per year. For Roan and all of us, these small actions add up. Watch the video here.

Sustainable Practices in Her Music Videos

In her “casual” music video, she dawned a sparkly turquoise vintage dress from the 80s/90s and rhinestone gloves made by Ramisha Sattar, an individual artist. Reducing the waste and pollution generated when new clothes are produced and instead supporting the already existing clothing cycle? Oh, it’s casual now.

Nature-inspired Style
Our dream girl’s dream girl doesn’t stop there. Many of her music videos and performances have taken inspiration from nature, subtly encouraging us to appreciate the beauty and inspiration on the earth around us. Her outfit for the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on June 20, 2024, showcased pink flowers on a green background. Additionally, her Coachella 2024 ensemble featured dazzling butterfly wings. These and other nature-inspired outfits inspire us to embrace the beauty of our surrounding environment.
