EMA January Newsletter
You won the 2019 EMA IMPACT Innovator of the Year Challenge. Since winning, how has your company grown, and what are your goals for this year?
PurePlus is currently Direct to Consumer on www.myfavesweets.com and will be with EComm partners Snack Nation, Thrive Market, GoodEgg, and Amazon in the next month. We are planning alternative markets in 2020 focused on those people that need the micronutrients from fruits and vegetables the most.
Also, we have built a team of specialists from the food innovation and operations arm of the baby food company, Plum Organics to the marketing arm of companies like JUST Water, Stance and GoPro to the business development arm of companies like This Bar Saves Lives.
You had the opportunity to attend Davos this month. What were your major takeaways?
The key is to collaborate with thought leaders and to devise creative solutions to complex problems. I was amazed at the massive amount of leaders speaking about climate change. Our end goal is to create a massive demand for fruits and vegetables that restores soil, climate, and health accelerating systems change.
Your product takes what would otherwise end up as food waste and turns it into a nutritious product. Why should companies focus on being circular and eliminating waste?
The way we eat and produce food is a significant contributor to climate change; agriculture is estimated to contribute between 13-24% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Given this enormous footprint, wasting less food presents a key opportunity to address climate change.
Our next big milestone is to provide a QR code for consumers to track their CO2 impact with every purchase of upcycled fruits and vegetables in our products. Companies that establish climate goals and accelerate action by leveraging a network to develop local and global awareness and measure actual impact, will be a part of the systems change for years to come.
What is your advice for this year's group of EMA Innovator Challenge finalists?
We are facing an era where humanity will shed those brands whose products do not solve a need, fail to commit to fixing a cause, and fall short of fueling movements to bring people together.
EMA collaborates with all stakeholders from government, NGO, corporate to the global citizens to launch global movements. Through working with EMA, the Innovator of the Year winner has the opportunity to set goals to get the public involved in a global social impact campaign.
From robots that save millions of gallons of water to healthy candies that reduce food waste, we've seen some incredible ideas at our Innovator Challenge. We are thrilled to announce that the fourth annual EMA Innovator of the Year Challenge is open for submissions! Please help us find important innovations by spreading the word and sharing our submissions page.
The 2020 EMA IMPACT Summit takes place on May 12-13th.
EMA IMPACT, a premier two-day sustainable business Summit in Los Angeles, is about the tremendous potential of a green economy. IMPACT covers every aspect of getting game-changing innovations to the public as quickly as possible. From scientists and entrepreneurs with actionable solutions to corporate leaders ready to implement and influencers eager to raise awareness, IMPACT is the only green business summit where you'll find every critical element in one room. At IMPACT, we challenge our exclusive group of attendees to network, brainstorm and develop plans that will help our planet, health, and economy.
Last year, we had standing room only for many of our panels and presentations. We encourage you to secure your spot in the room EARLY, so you don't miss out!
For anyone who has attended our EMA IMPACT Summit, you know that we get some kick-ass speakers who are out there saving the environment. While we are all blown away by their conversations, speeches, and innovations during IMPACT, they're all up to impressive projects year-round. For this reason, we've launched our EMA IMPACT Network blog to help you keep track of all the exciting announcements, achievements, and stories from our IMPACT speakers and sponsors. We'll also share updates related to the 2020 IMPACT Summit, including speaker announcements, so check back often.
If you are part of our IMPACT Network and have a story to share, please email jay@ema-online.org.
