PurePlus, a company combatting food waste through candy with their first product FAVES has been selected as a finalist in the Consumer Product category for the 12th annual SXSW Pitch® (formerly SXSW Accelerator). PurePlus won the 2019 EMA IMPACT Future Innovator of the Year Challenge.

SXSW Pitch is the marquee event of South by Southwest® (SXSW®) Conference & Festivals (March 13 - 22, 2020) Startups Track, where leading startups from around the world showcase some of the most impressive technology innovations to a panel of hand-picked judges and a live audience. Out of the 937 companies that applied to present at SXSW Pitch 2020, PurePlus was selected among the 50 finalists spanning 10 separate categories.

SXSW Pitch will feature finalists across the following 10 categories: Artificial Intelligence, Robotics & Voice, Augmented & Virtual Reality, Blockchain, Consumer Technology & CPG, Enterprise & Smart Data, Entertainment & Content, Health, Wearables & Wellbeing, Innovative World Technologies, Smart Cities, Transportation & Logistics, and Social & Culture.

PurePlus will present among four other companies in the Consumer Product category on March, 14th.

“Through working with SXSW and its partners, we will further our mission of illuminating the power of fruits and vegetables to restore the health of people and the planet.  We are facing an era where humanity will shed those brands whose products do not solve a need, fail to commit to fix a cause, or fall short in fueling movements that bring people together.  PurePlus is part of a broader category of Earth functional food that provides environmental benefits beyond health.” – Amy Keller, Co-Founder & CEO

Fruits and vegetables are the most wasted products that have the highest climate impact. In fact, agriculture is estimated to contribute between 13-24% of global greenhouse gas emissions. The way we eat and produce food is a significant contributor to climate change.  Given this enormous footprint, wasting less food presents a key opportunity to address climate change.

PurePlus helps local farmers by upcycling perfectly good fruits and vegetables that get rejected simply because they aren’t pretty enough. PurePlus has created a healthy candy wafer called FAVES that is made from the most climate impactful, imperfect and nutrient dense fruits and vegetables sourced from farmers that would have otherwise been wasted.  PurePlus addresses the barriers to fruit and vegetable consumption by being affordable, accessible and integrating into the current lifestyle of our communities.
