Precious Plastic Featured in Forbes

Last year at our IMPACT Summit, EMA Executive Board Officer Jaden Smith and Dave Hakkens discussed what we should do with all of the leftover plastic on our planet. While the plastic pollution crisis is undoubtedly daunting, Dave Hakkens and Precious Plastic offer a creative and optimistic outlook: Instead of seeing the used plastic on our planet as waste, we should see it as an opportunity to make new and useful products. That’s the mindset of IMPACT, taking an issue, and seeing it as an opportunity.

We are thrilled to see Precious Plastic featured in Forbes. It’s no surprise Jaden is mentioned in it, too! From the article

“’At the core, the project is really about a change in perspective ... Because it happens locally, you can see the process in front of your eyes instead of putting it in your bin and never seeing the results.’

Precious Plastic started six years ago and has partnered with organizations including the United Nations Environment Programme in Kenya, Parley for the Oceans in the Maldives and Grameen Telecom in Bangladesh to help set up plastic recycling workspaces and push local plastic recycling.

Jaden Smith, a Los Angeles rapper, actor and son of star Will Smith, also is a fan. And was in need of a recycled plastic table back in 2019.”

Precious Plastic’s mission: “The plastic problem is crystal clear by now. If you're on this webpage, chances are you know this already.
And understand its gravity.

Precious Plastic exists to reduce plastic waste. Sometimes we do it through boosting recycling. Sometimes through new biodegradable materials. Some other time by adopting zero waste lifestyles. Whatever works.

Our solutions see people as the key element to fix the plastic mess. Precious Plastic approaches count on people to bring about the necessary change. Small steps, multiplied by millions. That's where we can win our battle. We don't believe in techno-utopian, fix-it-all, dream technology.

Precious Plastic is a combination of people, machines, platforms and knowledge to create an alternative global recycling system.

Everyone can join the Precious Plastic Universe (yes you too!). You can go full in and start a Precious Plastic space or support when and how you can.”
