Happy Holidays
Happy Holidays & a Transformative New Year
2020 was difficult. By 2019, despite resistance from our Federal government, the last several years we were showing serious gains in environmental awareness and sustainable practices in both the corporate world and our individual behaviors. Phasing out single-use plastics finally became part of the conversation. Recycling and recreating using fabrics, ocean waste, and containers of all materials, including metals from our devices, entered mainstream consciousness. Then COVID happened.
With safety and health concerns paramount, many of our advances have been sidelined by this vicious virus. But this was a pause, not a retreat. The time we all had to evaluate and reassess priorities only confirmed our urgent need to cherish and protect our natural resources.
At EMA, we quickly pivoted to embrace the medium that defines our mission.
EMA is THE voice of the environment. For nearly 30 years, EMA has successfully used the power of entertainment and storytelling to shine a light on the issues that affect our planet. Through our program work, social media campaigns, and high-profile events, EMA is able to reach billions each year with messaging focused on solutions. EMA tells the story of our planet in an authentic, hopeful, and inclusive way, which allows us to reach the global public moving us into the sustainable economy in an empowering and proactive way.
2020 has been unpredictable, to say the least. Instead of using the current devastation as a reason to take the year off of events, we believed there was a desperate need to inform the public of the role climate change has played in the pandemic, create hope for solutions moving forward, and honor the excellent work by our network of storytellers throughout the year. Safety first, we worked with some of our most dedicated celebrity ambassadors to film in-studio segments and created inspirational video messages from many of the brightest names in the movement to shoot our Virtual EMA Awards. Thank you to EMA Board Co-Chair, Lance Bass for hosting and EMA Board Members Malin Akerman & Jack Donnelly for valuable creative assistance. We thank our tireless Board Members and Corporate Board Members for their steadfast engagement, creativity, and support.
Our EMA Green Seal had its 17th birthday this year & we are fully integrated with our EMA Sustainability Standard for Hospitality & Corporations.
Our EMA School Garden Program celebrated 11 years in 2020.
Our most recent program, EMA Talks, pairs world-renowned professors, scientists, innovators, & doctors with celebrity ambassadors for a long-form video conversation released bi-monthly. Beginning in late Spring, we’ve shared 15 EMA Talks this year with nearly 2 million views so far. We’re thrilled with this program. We have worked in association with Harvard University’s Harvard Chan C-Change, Yale, The Knowledge Society, Green For All, Gorongosa National Park, and Return to Freedom, Wild Horse Conservation so far this year. We want to give a huge thank you to EMA Board Member Eric Christian Olsen, our ongoing & passionate EMA Talks host. We look to this as an important addition to our program work.
On to 2021! We can’t wait to be able to celebrate innovation moving towards a circular economy with a new administration whose commitment to climate change will keep our mission center stage. The EMA IMPACT Summit & Innovator of the Year Challenge and our 30-year institution, the EMA Awards & Honors Benefit Gala highlight the excellence of environmental achievements globally. We are thrilled to announce all three events will continue in the New Year with in-person and hybrid events. As stewards of environmental action through the arts, we look forward to this new era for plan.
We’re living in a critical decade for our planet and our species. The hard work in front of us won’t happen by itself. Your donation to EMA supports our mission of being the voice guiding influencer voices, innovators, corporate practices, and the global population to understand the urgency of creating clean energy standards, a circular economy, and healthy homes through science, education, and action through communication and educational advocacy.
Congratulations to Gina McCarthyin her new post as Domestic Climate Policy Coordinator, as she leads our country towards a sustainable future.
We will not stop until we succeed.
Happy & healthy New Year to all.
